FREE Online Classes

Saturday March 10, 2012

If there is enough interest, I will hold an online class once a month. So far feedback on the Facebook Group page has been very positive. Our first class on indirect warping was a huge success. Several people tuned in and joined the channel with many simply watching. We had a lot of fun.  Topic requests for future classes (so far) are: Double Weaving and Clasp Weft Weaving.

I chose a new venue for holding classes as things like BlogTV and JustinTV simply don't meet the requirements for this kind of thing. Being able to interract with students via voice and webcam is necessary. The only thing the other sites offer is text chat. That just doesn't cut it.

So, I discovered bigbluebutton.com which lead me to bigmarker.com and classes will be held at bigmarker.com  Look for the Joy of Weaving community there.

The schedule and topics for classes can be found on this page: http://rigidheddleweaving.com/online_class

Hope to see you in class!

Joyce

Great! This site allows video conferencing? The first class was awesome but two way conferencing will be better for all. Thank you for doing these classes. As a new weaver, I really apprciate having someone experienced showing me the steps.

Yes, it allows video conferencing, it’s very awesome. Thanks to PattyAnne who turned me on to the BigBlueButton software. I was able to find some web pages that use it and BigMarker was one of the free ones which would take care of our needs. I believe the free version allows for 10 ppl to have voice/video interaction and up to 50 people via text. The most I ever got on BlogTV is about 13, with only 5 or 6 actually coming into the room to chat anyway so the free version at BigMarker should be ideal.

Wow, Cheryl, THANKS! This encourages me to keep going. If there’s a topic of interest you’d like to suggest, just shoot me an email. Lately, it seems, the most frequently asked question has been about finishes. I’ll have to do an article, I think.

I am new to rigid heddle weaving and am now obsessed. Being a visual learner, I find it much easier to understand a concept when I can see it. Your videos are fantastic and I am open to all topics for online classes. Thanks for letting the light bulb go off above my head!

hi Joyce…I just found your website, it’s pretty amazing!!!
I’m from Chile and my mom has a “minerva loom”, we don´t have many books, we don’t have any at all, because here in our country buying books about weaving is very difficult..I want to know if you’re still giving online clases because I want to learn some things..I have found some drafts on the internet but I don’t know how to read them :/
Please if you’re still teaching online let me know to try to learn some things.
thanks in advance :)

Joyce says:

Thanks, Paula, you’re amazing too!

I have not done a class in a long time. I might have to do one on reading a weaving draft as that’s one of the most frequently asked aspects of weaving. You may, however, find a complete article here on my web page dedicated to that. Type weaving draft into the search box upper right of the page and you should see “How To Read A Weaving Draft In Plain English”. Hope that helps!

If you’re on Facebook, we have a large community of weavers there ready to help out and no, it’s not gossipy. We stay on topic and everyone is very encouraging and inspiring. Check it out!

Happy Weaving!
