How to Make Plarn Less Boring

Saturday May 14, 2011

I read that for every plastic bag that's reused, you save one turtle, so what's not to love about working with plarn? I love making reusable shopping totes (click HERE for plarn) but was getting bored with the limitation of colors.

To make it even more fun, I decided to take my colored permanent markers, scribble on a bunch of bags with them before cutting them into plarn and then wove them to make a reusable grocery shopping tote.

Here's the results:

Coloring with Sharpies  Sharpie Colored Plarn

Sharpie Colored Plarn on Loom  Sharpie Colored Plarn Tote

Seriously, what's not to love about this?! Smile Smile Smile

I love this idea. Plarn is fun & thrifty – but limited in colors. can’t wait to try some.

What is the warp you used? Also, I love the blue handles – is that a fabric you wove yourself, or repurposed?

The warp is an unknown composition, I believe it’s wool. Yes, I wove the handles. I used an 8 dent reed 4” wide (made by Beka). The yarn for the handles is the same as the warp and the yarn was donated by PattyAnne of http://pattyannesplace.com
